Ozark Trail Tents – Our 14 Best Picks

Ozark is a name many will recognize from the recent TV series named after the Ozarks of Missouri. However, in this article we are not going to discuss money laundering methods or morality of the Langmores. Instead it is more likely that you have stumbled upon Ozark Trail tents, got confused by the breathtaking variety of tents that they offer and wanted some guidance. Lucky you – you found the right page. We have hand picked the best tents they make and divided them into three different size categories: small (1-2 persons), medium (3-8 persons) and large (9-14 persons).

As an overall review of Ozark Trail tents we say that they are great “bang for your buck” tents, similarly to Northwest Territory. Definitely not high end (nor low end for that matter) but they certainly have their place on the market. Good quality with low prices throughout the options we are about to introduce in this article.

Ozark Trail Base Camp 14-Person Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail Base Camp 14-Person Cabin Tent

  • Dividable to 1-4 rooms with separate entries
  • 12 windows
  • 20 minute setup time

This huge hub style tent can be divided into multiple separate rooms with their own entrances or it can be left at one big room with total floor space of staggering 400 square feet (20′ x 20′), fitting five queen-sized air mattresses. The setup process is really easy and straightforward and takes no more than 20 minutes which is relatively fast for a tent of this size. Even one person can set this tent up by oneself but of course it gets even easier when done with two or the whole group. Being a 2-3 season tent it is definitely not your all rounder that you can comfortably use in severe weather conditions, but in light weather it is really comfy with the 12 windows providing amazing ventilation.

Ozark Trail 12 Person Tent

Ozark Trail 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent

  • No assembly needed, pre-attached poles
  • 7 fully closeable windows
  • Electrical cord access
  • Rainfly included

This Ozark Trail 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent is an L-shaped beauty with seven fully closeable windows and three rooms. Being an instant cabin tent with pre-attached poles there is no need for assembly, you just unfold and extend. You probably won’t setup the tent in under 2 minutes as they promise the first few times but with some routine it is definitely doable (without additional tarps, rainfly and such) – but you need two people for it. Setting up completely takes around some 15-20 minutes we would estimate. One thing to keep in mind is that the Ozark Trail 12 Person Tent is not suitable for harsh winds – just as you should expect from an instant cabin tent of this size.

Ozark Trail Instant Cabin Tent with Built in Cabin Lights

Ozark Trail Instant Cabin Tent with Built in Cabin Lights

  • Built-in LED lighting
  • Electrical cord access
  • Instant setup
  • Rainfly included

The highlight of this 10-person tent is the beautiful built-in cabin lighting. The poles come attached with ambient-LED lights that can be adjusted to three presets: low, medium and high. Daytime lighting is taken care of by three extra large windows. This is another tent that is advertised with a staggering 2 minute setup time, but a more realistic approximation would be 5-10 minutes, but unlike the extra large tents the 10-person version can be easily set up with by one person due to its simple shape. This tent is also available without the built-in lighting in case you don’t have use for them.

Ozark Trail ConnecTENT 10 person 3 Dome Tent

Ozark Trail ConnecTENT 10-person 3-Dome Tent

  • 3 tents can be used separately
  • Electrical port
  • Easy to set up

Ozark Trail ConnecTENT is actually three separate tents that you can connect together. It’s a great alternative for families whose children want a bit of their own peace while still having easy access to the main tent. One thing to note is that the connectors between tents don’t have any flooring on them. This could get a bit problematic if camping on bug ridden land, even though you just hop from one tent to another without getting your feet on the area in between.

Ozark Trail 9-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail 9-Person Instant Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail 9-Person Instant Cabin Tent

  • Screen room
  • Electrical cord access
  • Large windows with mesh screens

Yet another instant setup tent on the list. This one comes equipped with a screen room which is large enough to allow setting up a nice covered terrace on the entrance of the tent with a pair of camping chairs. There are large windows with mesh screens on each side of the tent and the insides can be split up in two with a divider. Can be used even in heavy rain.

Ozark Trail 8 Person 2 Room Instant Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail 8 Person 2 Room Instant Cabin Tent

  • Electrical cord access
  • 5 closeable windows
  • 60 second setup

This 8 person tent is shaped and designed pretty much identically as the regular 10 person tent (not ConnecTENT) but it is obviously a degree smaller (140 sq ft / 117 sq ft floor space). Still it fits comfortably two queen-sized air mattresses or 8 campers in sleeping bags. Now,as we have moved on to a bit smaller tents the astonishing setup time promises are actually coming true. We feel the promised 60 second setup time is actually doable without any sort of expertise or training and taking the tent down takes no more than twice that time. Now that’s what we call instant.

Ozark Trail Teepee Tent

Ozark Trail Teepee Tent

  • No irritating center pole
  • Height: 7'8" - easy to locate in big events
  • Superb price to size ratio

The Teepee is truly one of its kind on the list. The picture above probably won’t do the size any justice but this 7’8″ monster sleeps up to 7 people. In addition to its regular camping potential it is ideal for big music festivals and similar events with hundreds of tents where you might have a hard time locating your tent – you simply can’t miss it. On average setting up the teepee takes no more than 10 minutes by two adults.

Ozark Trail 6-Person Dark Rest Instant Cabin Tent

Ozark Trail 6-Person Dark Rest Instant Cabin Tent

  • 60 second setup
  • Dark rest technology
  • Rainfly with sealed seams

Material of this tent is what Ozark Trail calls “innovative Dark Rest technology”. It works in two ways: let’s as little light as possible both in and out. Don’t worry, it won’t make you feel like you are in a black hole (and there are windows) but it certainly helps if you have trouble sleeping in a tent when the daylight begins to shine. Additionally this tent features an impressive set up time of 60 seconds and skylights with ceiling panels.

Ozark Trail 6-Person Dome Tent

6-Person Dome Tent

  • Simple
  • Good for bad weather

Fitting either two queen air beds or six people in sleeping bags this dome tent is nicely sized but other than that it is basic as it gets. Don’t get us wrong here – it is a good tent but there is not much to discuss about it. No fancy extras (well, it has pockets but which tent these days doesn’t?), no quick setup time (10 minutes is pretty average for the size). Compared to the bigger and more complex tents on the list it has to be said that the 6 person dome is more suitable for harsh weather conditions thanks to the taped fly seams and the inside binding floor system.

Ozark Trail 4-person Backpacking Tent

Ozark Trail 4-person Backpacking Tent

  • Weighs less than 8 pounds
  • 4 windows for great ventilation
  • E-port for extension cords

Pretty much the same things could be said about this than the regular 6 person model – nothing too fancy or great but it gives  you good value for money. Recommended for people who need a decent tent a few times a year.

Ozark Trail 4-Season 2-Person Hiker Tent

Ozark Trail 4-Season 2-Person Hiker Tent

  • Two doors
  • Full fly coverage
  • Two vestibules

This magnificent tent is truly designed for two campers unlike many others that can fit two. It has two doors on both sides covered with two vestibules (meaning those covered areas outside of the doors) meaning that if one of you has to get out before the other you can do so hassle free and you both can store your gear outside the tent. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to test it on heavy rain and wind but the reports say that even 60 mph winds are a piece of cake for this tent – just as you would expect with a 4-season model.

Ozark Trail 1 Person Backpacking Tent

Ozark Trail 1 Person Backpacking Tent

  • Weight: 4.4 lbs
  • E-port for easy access
  • Fits easily into backpack when folded

Even though this is sold as a 1-person tent you can see from the table above that it has the same amount of floor space as the 2-person model. So yes, you can fit two people in it. However, you should do your due diligence just as with any tent whatsoever: if you are two 6’4″ guys with large frames who like to avoid touching other people… no, don’t buy this. Get a four person tent instead. The low figure design (only 37″ tall), fully taped waterproof fly and the water repellent fabric combine into a great little tent that can be used even in harsh weather conditions with no problems.

Ozark Trail Ultra Light Back Packing Tent

Ozark Trail Ultra Light Back Packing Tent

  • Weight: 3.6 lbs
  • Under 2 minute setup time
  • Mesh wall for ventilation

Weighing 3.6 pounds this tent is perfect for solo hiking trips. Good materials provide good ventilation and the long rainfly can be used as a vestibule for storing your gear on the door. Two minute setup time is great for hiking as you can meet unexpected situations and weather conditions which require fast setup and the bright color makes it easier to do in the dark even without additional light sources. Great value for money.

What to Look for When Buying?

Well, it is up to your personal preference. Do you want a fast pop up tent? Go for the instant tents. Do you need tent accessories like a carry bag? Make sure it is included. Do you want a screen house or a rain fly? Fiberglass poles for lightweight carry? Are you going on a camping trip or do you want a large family tent on your backyard? The options are pretty much limitless and you need to think about your needs when deciding.
